If you have followed my work over the years, you probably have noticed that I love to push my creative limits by not just sticking to one specific style or medium. I have created thousands of works of art over my career as a freelance artist. I have also spent thousands of hours sketching, painting, and designing. The art world sometimes pushes artists to choose a style in their work and stick with it for name recognition purposes. It makes it easier for the viewer to see your style and immediately know who created it. As a self taught artist, being versatile in subject matter and style has been been one of the biggest keys to my success. Having such a wide range of styles when it comes to my work only has helped me get noticed by more collectors and companies interested in my work. If I could give one piece of advice to young artists looking to have a creative career; keep learning and expanding your skill sets!
The more you experiment and dive deep to explore new textures, new surfaces, and new subject matter to master, the more prepared you will be to create exactly what your future collectors might be envisioning. To all of you creators out there..teach yourself how to paint in a different style today, try your hand at some expressive abstract painting! I was never a fan of abstract artwork until I bought a few canvases and tried it myself. It proved to really challenge me to be less exact and more impulsive with my painting strokes. You quickly learn that it is not as easy as it looks. Painting abstracts is now one of my favorite things to create. Just learning to abstract paint also pushed me to not be afraid of working on bigger canvases and walls. One thing that is very important for longevity as a professional artist is to be flexible and take the time to study different styles of art. Now go and pick up an art supply that you have never had the guts to try! Color outside your own lines you have made for yourself. Just a little inspiration for my fellow artists reading this today!
